Course “How to Foster Livelihood Strategies in Key Sectors of the Economy in Low-income Settlements” during the World Urban Forum 6 (Naples, September 2012)

Dear All,

Let me please also announce this course, which will take place during the WUF 6 (participants have to register beforehand with UN-Habitat). Please note that this is NOT the event on the Urban Labour Network, announced before.

The first half of the course will comprise four short presentations on the basics of slum upgrading policy framework and livelihood strategies followed by case studies. A number of specific approaches and tools will be explained with the who and the how, the implementation difficulties and how to overcome these.
The second half will involve working groups given specific issues and questions to work through. This will be followed by
a report-back and open discussion session.

Thanks, Saboor. The course has been designed and is organized by ILO nad New Synergies in Development. UN-Habitat has been kept on the loop and provided comments.

    Hi Ed,

All the classes that you are mentioning regarding labour and urban economy that are supposed to happen during the impending WUF sound interesting. I think building livelihoods and protecting labour rights are the core of making cities sustainable for all. I am just curious, is this some sort of partnership between ILO and UN-Habitat, or is it UN-Habitat that’s taking the lead?

I will make sure to pass the word along to my contacts.

    Best,

    Saboor
