Events

There are many events related to the economy, urban development, labour in general and related issues which also address urban labour specifically. Below is a list of a number of key events, with the caveat that the Urban Labour Network cannot post all of them. There are miriads of such events taking place throughout the world and we will post all that come into our radar screen. We also count on the help of the members of the Network to inform about forthcoming events — and perhaps to organize urban labour events in due course!

Conference on Urban and Regional Economics 2011

Hosted By: IMDEA Social Sciences

Organizers: Diego Puga, Klaus Desmet and Andrés Rodríguez-Pose

This will be the third edition of CURE, an annual conference that brings together a group of about 30 urban and regional economists from across the world. CURE alternates across the Atlantic, being held in Europe on odd years and in North America on even years. Previous editions were held in Milan and in Princeton. When held in Europe, CURE is organised through the International Trade and Regional Economics Programme of the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR). This year’s CURE will be hosted by IMDEA Social Sciences Institute, with additional support and funding from Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, Bank of Spain, Regional Government of Madrid, and Spain’s Ministry of Science and Innovation.

European Summer Symposium in Labour Economics , Ammersee

Organizers: Giuseppe Bertola, Marco Caliendo and Josef Zweimüller

The 13th CEPR European Summer Symposium in Labour Economics (ESSLE) will be hosted by the Institute for the Study of Labor (IZA) at the conference centre of Deutsche Post DHL in Buch at the lake of Ammersee (near Munich), and will be organised by Giuseppe Bertola (Università degli Studi di Torino and CEPR), Marco Caliendo (IZA) and Josef Zweimüller (Institute for Empirical Research in Economics, University of Zurich and CEPR). The keynote lecture will be given by Francine D. Blau (Cornell University). ESSLE is designed to bring together economists in the field from across Europe and key researchers from outside the region. It provides a unique opportunity for researchers from different universities and countries to discuss their work in a relaxed atmosphere and to develop long-term collaborative relationships. Another important aim of ESSLE is to provide young researchers with the opportunity to meet and discuss their work with senior economists. Paper proposals are invited in any area of labour economics.
